Dr. Maha El-Sayed, Director

  • M.S. and Ph.D. in Biophysical Chemistry—Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT); completed a prestigious 2-year postdoctoral at Stanford University
  • 30-year employee of The Clorox Company
  • Extensive background in microbiology, enzymology, product development and new innovations
  • Sees the scientific field of microbiome research growing and evolving at a very fast pace and looks forward to applying innovative, scientific breakthroughs to Advanced Naturals products

Bill King, Research Fellow

  • B.S. degree in Genetics and Microbiology and M.S. degree in Food—University of California, Davis; MBA—St. Mary’s College, Moraga, CA.
  • Tapped to lead the science e ort for Advanced Naturals probiotics
  • Was a lead scientist in probiotics before probiotics were mainstream; helped create much of the foundational science for probiotics
  • Managed innovation and research programs in global technology companies, including DSM Inc., Genencor International, Rhodia SA, Rhone-Poulenc SA, and The Clorox Company; focus has been in the development of novel cultures, antimicrobials, enzymes and probiotics, resulting in 18 patents to date
  • Led a team in new directions in the creation of new methods for testing
    C difficile, TB, Biofilms, MER-CoV, and Ebola, and became the Clorox
    Research Fellow in Microbiology

Dr. Francis Lau, Associate Research Fellow

  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience and Toxicology—Texas A & M University; M.S. degree in Biochemistry—University of San Francisco; M.S. degree in Computer Information Systems—University of Houston; BSc in Biochemistry (Minor in Microbiology)—University of Alberta
  • 15 years+ developing nutraceuticals and dietary supplements
  • Heavily involved in early stage, new product development processes
  • Extensive research background; author of scienti c papers, books and abstracts; inventor of several patents

Dr. Zac Lewis Scientist II

  • Ph.D. in Microbiology—University of California, Davis; completed the prestigious postdoctoral fellowship funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation
  • Specialist in probiotics and prebiotics
  • Extensive expertise in Bifidobacterial genetics and physiology, as well as training on measuring bacterial abundances in the gut using state-of-the-art DNA sequencing techniques
  • Studied the effects of specialized prebiotic sugars in breast milk on the developing gut microbiome of infants
